How To Hook Up A TV Antenna
Consult your owners manual for details. Indoor antennas work just fine if you are lucky enough to live in an area with great signals coming over the air, but most people get better results with outdoor antennas. If you are using an antenna that does not require power, such as rabbit ears, you may skip this step.
Tighten the securing screw. Attach the antenna to the antenna pole following the instructions provided.
Before you start investing in an antenna, check with your local broadcasters and see who has ATSC channels up and running. Keep the grounding wire running as straight as possible to the grounding block. Push in the weather bushing.
You should have a cable with an RF connector on the end that looks similar to the cable you used with the antenna. Make sure the antenna connector is twisted tightly into place.
The good news is that digital broadcasts are free of the snow, fade, and other things that made broadcast analog TV so frustrating.
The simplest one uses a second RF cable. Then do the same thing at the audio input jack on our HDTV.
Save videos for later by signing up or logging in
Indoor antennas work well in areas where the television signal is strong, but reception deteriorates if tall buildings block the signal or if your home is in a valley. Step Plug the antenna's power supply into a V AC wall outlet.
Attach the coax to the lower connector with an adjustable wrench. Place the antenna on a sturdy surface such as the top of an entertainment center. That means you have to use a separate cable with red and white RCA plugs to get the sound from your cable box to your TV.
Screw the ground wire to the grounding point with a screwdriver.
The RF, S, video and component connectors all transmit an analog signal. The first step is to connect the box to the cable; it brings the television signal into your house.
Your antenna attaches with a cable — it has an F connector. Step Turn on the TV and check for digital reception.
Fix to the exterior wall with cable clips spaced 1 foot apart. Keep the coax as straight as possible. The ends are color coded red, blue and green. For better quality video, see if your cable box has an S video or component output.
If you are using the "rabbit ears" style antenna, make sure that the each section of the antenna is fully extended.
